Northern Quartz by Anjana Simspon, INK for Phoebe Fabrics was inspired by the Arctic and everything which can be found there from animals and plants to minerals, the weather and the night sky. It is a part of the world Anjana (Annie) has never visited and sadly she may never get to see in its fullness due to climate change. 

It is a landscape of a surprising variety of topography of forests, deserts and ice. And the same for the diversity of animals and birds that live there. As a child, Annie's absolute favourite part of her local zoo was the “Life in the Cold” exhibit featuring a polar bear, arctic foxes and snowy owls. To a five year old, it was impossible to believe these beautiful creatures were actually from this world; and the land they lived in even more impossible to imagine. 

In working on this collection, Annie did research to learn about the Arctic; about the long polar winter, the incredible biodiversity (over 21,000 known species of animals, birds, fish, plants, fungi and microbes), the night sky and of course, the weather. Annie invites you to also be inspired to learn about the Arctic!
